My one of a kind pots are made with a variety of clays; from earthenware to stoneware and porcelain. Because of the nature of my work the pieces will often be a combination of 2 or more parts and each part will sometimes be made of different clays and fired to different temperatures. This also gives me a much larger glaze and color palette.
Because of my attraction to limited production, I'll make my one of a kind pieces in groups. I'll decide on the subject (ie: soy jar, creamer and sugar) and then create lots of parts through throwing, hand building and molding. I play with composition by stacking the parts in different combinations. Once I've decided on the form I begin carving and shaping the individual parts and then assemble them together. After the final cleanup, I'll add surface texture with slip and carving.
The glazes are added with a brush, using a variety of color on a single piece, with 2-4 coats to give a mixture of opaque and translucent surfaces.
My main intention is for my pottery to be used. They are food safe and durable but hand washing is suggested.
